GMP+ Certification Scheme Animal Feed Sector 2006

FAMI-QS: Known as European Feed Additives and Pre-Mixtures Quality System.

The European Regulation on Feed Hygiene (183/2005) sets up hygiene and safety requirements for the whole feed chain this includes feed additives and premixtures. This Regulation also promotes the establishment of codes of practice in the feed chain. .


Therefore the feed additive industry has decided to establish a code of practice covering feed additives and premixtures (as defined in Regulation 1831/2003/EC on additives for use in animal nutrition).

All members of the EU Feed Additives and Pre-Mixtures association “FEFANA” joined forces to develop FAMI-QS a global feed safety assurance scheme. . The purpose of the association is to coordinate and manage all activities related to EU Feed Additives and Pre-Mixture quality system.

PDV:  Known as Product Board Animal Feed, which is a public law corporate body set up at the request of the Dutch Animal Feed Industry. Its task is to serve the community at large and to represent the interest of the companies and the employees within the Animal Feed Production Chain. www.pdv.nl
HACCP principles

Food safety : PDV has a special quality programme for the Dutch animal feed chain that focuses on animal feed safety as a component of overall food safety. The motto of the programme, Feed for Food, suggests that animal feed and food for human consumption can never be viewed in isolation from one another.

GMP + HACCP

The Dutch animal feed sector applies the same quality assurance system as the international foodstuffs industry: pro-active quality assurance based on HACCP. The HACCP risk management system complements the product board's existing Good Manufacturing/Managing Practice quality assurance standards (GMP). The GMP+HACCP quality assurance system (known as GMP+) is being expanded to cover the entire chain, from feed ingredients producer to transport company and livestock farmer.

Mutual Recognition
In May 2006 FAMI-QS has signed an agreement with OVOCOM (Belgium) and PDV (The Netherlands) for mutual recognition between FAMI-QS and PDV regarding their schemes.

FoodCert B. V has been approved by PDV for certification of organizations implementing GMP Animal Feeds and Pre mixtures. Companies desiring to get certification in India under this scheme can apply to FCI
